How to set up the E-Marketing Center (EMC)
- test mailing
First, don't be frustrated with new software. Everyone faces a
learning curve with anything new in life. Riding a bike, driving a car or
starting a new job. We have all been there and when we look back, we wonder what
all of the fuss was about. We have spent years making the software easier
to use and added features to keep up with today's technology. This looks
like a lot of training but I am going step by step and in great detail. Once you
have set up 2 campaigns, you will have it down cold.
Lets Start..
Go to the "Start" Button (lower
left corner of Windows) - Programs - E-Marketing Center
This will open up the software. If this is your first time opening the
software, you will need to enter in your email address and the email key
code. You can find this information in an email that was sent to you
when you downloaded the software.
Once EMC is open, click on the CAN Spam Icon (found
in the EMC Software)
Enter in the required information for your emails
to be Can-Spam Compliant. You will not be able to send email out of EMC
without filling in ALL the Can-Spam Compliance information (BOTH TABS). Why
does the software require you to fill out the Can-Spam compliance area? The
US Congress has passed a law requiring certain features and means of operation
when sending out your business marketing email. EMC desires to be compliant and
legal and helps you to meet the standards set forth by our governing bodies when
sending out business marketing email.
Now, click on the tab - Honor all remove
requests with EMC's Automated Removal System.
This is where you will enter your special email
settings for your Auto Removal Link (OPT OUT) You can use an existing
email address but if your regular email program downloads it before the EMC
does, you will need to process the remove manually.
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND you get another pop account (most isps allow you more
than one email account) to handle your EMC Auto Removal Requests. What will
happen is, when any of your leads clicks on the automatically generated link at
the bottom of all the outgoing emails in EMC, the pop account you specify here
will receive the removal request and EMC will recognize this when it checks this
pop account and remove the user from future mailings.
If you do not have an email address just for
your removes, you can call your ISP or web host to set this up! Simply request
for another pop account. DO NOT USE THE WORDS REMOVE or OPT OUT or any words
like that in the pop account name (remove@msn.com
would probably be filtered out by email server filters and your email would
never reach the recipient) Many spam filters filter these words out.
You will only use this address for removing
people from your mailing list. This is required by law and helps reduce
any Spam complaints you may get. When you call to set this up you need the
following:
Decide on the remove address. Example
r@yourdomain.com . If you do
this with your ISP, it will need to be more
unique like r12345@concast.net
mainly because r@concast.net is probably
taken. Once you have decided on your
remove email address you need the following from your ISP or web-host :
Incoming Mailserver: username:
Password:
Notice the bottom text box "Click the
below link to discontinue your service with us. This is permanent."
This is the text EMC will automatically add to
the bottom of ALL OUTGOING EMAIL to remain compliant with the CAN SPAM ACT. Your
leads will be-able to click on that link to request to be removed. You may
change that text to anything you'd like to prompt your leads that this is an
removal request.
Remember though, spam filters filter out a lot
of words that deal with REMOVE, etc....
The Email Address of POP3 account is the
email address you want to receive removal request at.
You also need to fill in the POP3 Server,
username, and password of the pop3 account so EMC can retrieve the removal
requests.
The removal text box allows you to enter the
statement you want your contacts to see about the removal system.
This will give you all the info you need to
complete the Auto removal system portion of the software.
Once you have entered the information, close the
form and all the information will be saved.
